Amazing, this city is simply amazing.
She's a fighter, this beautiful little city within a city. She has a
heart and a soul that actually sparkles. Her welcoming smile will blind you to any fault
she might have. When she gathers you to her breast she mesmerizes your soul. This city
is about rhythm, the rhythm of life.
Don't come here expecting sugar and spice, you might find it, but I can't imagine where.
This city is about being human, about falling down and unable to drag yourself back to
your feet. A total stranger will reach down and gently help you. This person of unknown
origin may be black, white, Cajun, Mexican, or any other of the hundreds of nationalities
that thrive here. There are no lines that divide, only humans with a common love of a
place and a deep and abiding respect for life.
Listen to the bells calling the faithful to the church at Jackson Square. Only last
night I heard the sounds of music and the beating of the drums calling the
same message, "come to me ... allow me to take your pain and fill your heart with joy."
You haven't seen a thing until you see the French Quarter Fest.
Miles of food. The smells grab you by the nose and lead you from booth to booth. If they
don't have it, it's not worth eating. Plain old food like hot dogs and hamburgers to
delicacies like sautéed frog legs, mountains of Oysters and Crawfish (crawdads),
Pralines, Bar-B-Que everything, Banana Pudding, Beer, Wine, Etouffee, Pork Chops.
Sounds. At first its hard to distinguish one from the other, but then your ears adjust and
like the smell of the different foods, the various rhythms start to sink into your soul
as you follow the beat that excites you. You cannot stand still, no matter how hard
you might try.
Zydeco, Blues, Jazz, Old Rock N Roll.
It was wonderful, it was fabulous, and it was amazing.
If you never go another place, you need to come to this festival next year. No fighting,
no arguing, just smiles and thousands of happy, happy people. We did take lots of pictures
so you could see for yourselves, but you need to experience it for real. In person, taste
life, smell the allure, hear the rhythm, and feel the love.
Come, fall in love with New Orleans. You won't be sorry, I promise.
