Go ahead. Take a Road Trip. Head south from New Orleans to the Gulf of Mexico.
Take Highway 90 to Houma. This beautiful little city is a find in
itself. It offers a multitude of things to do and places to see.
Stop for lunch at Boudreau & Thibodeau's Cajun Cookin.
It's located on Main Street with easy access. The food was fabulous and plentiful.
Follow Highway 24 from Houma to Larose and listen to Swamp Pop on
The Rajun' Cajun
. From there take Highway 308 to Golden Meadow, then Highway 1 all the way to Grand
Isle.
Realize you are several miles out in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico on a strip of land no
wider than a couple hundred feet. The water is on both sides of the two-lane highway.
The beauty and feelings are incredible. Standing on the beach you can picture the pirates
of Barataria Bay drinking their rum and splitting their booty. The warmth of the water is
striking; it feels like warm silk on your skin. The small community offers many places to
stay, motels, cabins, inns and long-term rentals. There is a large assortment of restaurants
and cafes. Something for everyone's budget.
